Access Someone Else’s Mail and Calendar in Outlook 2007

Before you can access someone’s mail folders, calendar or contacts they must give you access to do so. The person whose information is being shared should login to their ThinHost account and follow the article entitled “Give Someone Access to your Mail and Calendar in Outlook”.

Method 1: Occasional Access

  • Click File > Open > Other User’s Folder
  • Click ‘Name’ and choose the person
  • Under folder type, choose the specific folder you would like to view
  • Click OK

Note: if you get an error message, then the person whose information is being shared should re-visit the article entitled “Give Someone Access to your Mail and Calendar in Outlook”.

Method 2: Permanent Access

  • Click Tools > Account Settings
  • Double-click on your name / e-mail address or where it says ‘Microsoft Exchange
  • Click ‘More Settings’
  • Click ‘Advanced’
  • Click ‘Add’
  • Type the name of the person
    • Note: an error at this stage indicates that you have typed the name incorrectly when compared to the Global Address List.
    • Ensure the person’s name is displayed in the white box
    • Click OK
    • Click Next > Finish > Close
    • The person’s mailbox will now be permanently displayed in the folder list underneath your own mailbox

Note: if you get an error message when clicking on the person’s mailbox, then the person whose information is being shared should re-visit the article entitled “Give Someone Access to your Mail and Calendar in Outlook”.
